Every year, in addition to our monthly club rides, we try to plan a couple of big trips that are one to two weeks long and require travel.
In 2016 we made our first trip to Rally in the Pines in MacKay, Idaho. We took a side trip on the way from from the Rally to Utah. We enjoyed the trip so much that we decided to make another run to the 2017 Rally.
This summer a group of over 20 club members made the trip that we named “Western Tour 2017”. When planning this trip we decided to take not only go out west to ride but to explore and site see in some of the country’s most scenic, beautiful areas. We also have special shirts made for these rides so we can be easily
recognized as a group (and to find the strays who wander off!)
You can’t be in South Dakota and not take a trip to Mount Rushmore. A group of us took a day to go see the monument, have some lunch, do a little shopping and relaxing.
Next stop on the tour was to ride the Big Horn Mountains. On the way to our destination we stopped to see Devil’s Tower, hike around the tower and of course take some pictures for the club calendar. We reached our destination which was Arrowhead Lodge in Dayton, Wyoming. As usual we had club members staying in lodge rooms and of course some members camping in their toy haulers. Once again we were able to take off on our ATV’s and SxS’s and hit the trails right from our rooms. The couple of days we spent here were not enough! The trails were great with fantastic mountain vistas, meadows and wildlife. We were able to see Elk, deer and even a moose! Word to the wise when you ride the Big Horns, bring lots of layers of clothes because even in June we had 30 degree temps, ice pellets and snow! Everyone wished we had planned a longer stay in the Big Horns as we barely scratched the surface of trails to ride.
Next stop was MacKay and the Rally in the Pines. We planned to arrive a couple of days early and ride on our own before the Rally and 3 days of guided rides began. If you haven’t ridden in Idaho, MacKay is great place to ride. Lots of beautiful mountain tops, valleys full of flowers, streams, lakes and wildlife.
The Rally takes place in the fairgrounds which is set up with lots of vendors. You can buy just about anything you need in ATV accessories, clothing, and gadgets. The Rally hosts a “show and shine” and the winner is awarded a great prize every year. There is also a parade down main street where you can enter your decorated machine and cruise down the main drag for all the town to see.
There are many guided rides to choose from including the haunted ghost ride thru the wooded mountain areas and old mining town, dinner rides, lunch rides and scenic rides that will leave you in awe of the beauty of the area. Can’t forget the lighted night ride parade up and back down the mountain, what a sight to see!
One of the great things about the long trips we plan is you can do the entire two weeks if you want or you can do the first half or the last half only if your vacation time limits your available time.
Being a part of a club like Two Rivers ATV gives you the opportunity to meet new people with similar interests, social time after riding and meetings and most important, the thrill of the rides!
